Health minister Lord Howe claims that the measures to have generic substitution are `too prescriptive'. In addition to this the GPC prescribing chief, Dr Bill Beeby said the decision was `a victory for common sense'.
He says, 'This is a sensible decision. It is good to see that genuine concerns have been listened to.'
The BMA might continue to work along with the DoH to see how the NHS can offer prescribe more efficiently, which underlines the fact of prescribing more generic drugs.
The released scheme of events has highly been condemned, and being marked as bureaucratic and costly with respect to the GP and pharmacist time for the amount of meony which could have been conserved. In addition to this, the Charities also warned that the plans might put patients life at risk.
Lord Howe sates that the savings will be coming from the use of generic medicines where it is clinically appropriate.
He adds, 'we believe that national plans to enforce generic substitution in primary care are too prescriptive.'
The government has pondered over the concerns with regard to the consultation, he said. It remains to be seen, if the proposals offers benefit for the NHS or not when compared with the efforts of frontline staff for making it use in a practical manner.
Lowe Howe wants the patients to offer drugs their doctors suggest coming at the best price for the taxpayer.
