Malaria is on the wane, a third of those in need receive treatment for Aids, and the fight against tuberculosis is under way. The 10 year-old Global Fund, which collects money from donor countries for programmes in 150 countries, is the main mechanism for this progress. But the present financial crisis may impact on its work.
