What is Generic Propecia (Finasteride) used for?
The effectiveness of Generic Propecia (Finasteride) was demonstrated in studies of men, aged 18 to 41, with mild to moderate hair loss at the top and middle front of the head. In the longest reported controlled clinical study of men with certain types of male pattern hair loss, 2 out of 3 men on Generic Propecia (Finasteride) regrew hair, as measured by actual hair counts over time.
There is not sufficient evidence that Generic Propecia (Finasteride) works for receding hairlines at the temples.
Generic Propecia (Finasteride) is for the treatment of male pattern hair loss in MEN ONLY and should NOT be used by women or children.

How to take Generic Propecia (Finasteride)?
Generic Propecia (Finasteride) should be administered at 1mg daily in pill form, with no exceptions. Many people talk about custom dosing, skipping days, doubling up, etc. This will not only do nothing to help your hair loss, but will also do your system more harm than good. Hormones are very delicate chemicals that operate in conjunction with each other.
Therefore a constant daily dose will ensure a stable hormonal environment, and keep your biology in harmony.
What happens if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
If OVERDOSE is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Who should not take Generic Propecia (Finasteride)?
Before using this drug, tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: liver disease, prostate cancer, urinary tract disease, drug allergies. The drug can be absorbed through the skin. If the film coating of the tablet has been broken or the tablet crushed, it should not be handled by a woman who is pregnant or plans to become pregnant. Any contact with finasteride by a developing male fetus could result in abnormalities of the external sex organs. Generic Propecia (Finasteride) should not be used in women or children. Generic Propecia (Finasteride), must not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. It is not known if Generic Propecia (Finasteride) is excreted into breast milk. However, this drug is not indicated for use in women.
What side effects may occur?
In clinical studies for Generic Propecia (Finasteride), a small number of men experienced certain sexual side effects, such as less desire for sex, difficulty in achieving an erection, or a decrease in the amount of semen. Each of these side effects occurred in less than 2% of men and went away in men who stopped taking Generic Propecia (Finasteride) because of them.
The great thing about this treatment is that you can take it for a month to see how well you tolerate it. If you notice any problems and wish to discontinue, you may do so without having done yourself any harm. Those who do experience side effects will also be happy to know that these side effects are very common at the beginning of treatment while your system is adjusting itself, and typically disappear after a couple months.
It is important that those with liver function problems consult a physician prior to taking Generic Propecia (Finasteride), as it is extensively metabolized in the liver.
Stop taking Generic Propecia (Finasteride) and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives).
Other, less serious side effects have been reported but usually resolve with continued treatment.
Continue to take Propecia and notify your doctor if you experience:
- decreased libido (sex drive);
- decreased volume of ejaculate;
- impotence (trouble getting or keeping an erection); or
- breast tenderness or enlargement.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
Drug Interactions
There are no known interactions between Propecia and other medications. Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter and prescription medication you may use. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Additional Information
Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have liver disease. You may not be able to take Propecia, or you may need a lower dose or special monitoring during treatment.
Women who are or who may become pregnant must not handle crushed or broken Propecia tablets. The medication could be absorbed through the skin. Propecia is known to cause birth defects in a developing male baby. Exposure to whole tablets should be avoided whenever possible, however exposure to whole tablets is not expected to be harmful as long as the tablets are not swallowed.
