Generic Prinivil (Lisinopril), a synthetic peptide derivative, is an oral long-acting angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor.
What Is Generic Prinivil (Lisinopril) Used For?
It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children 6 years of age and older. This medication is also used after an acute heart attack to improve survival, and is used with other drugs (e.g., "water pills"/diuretics, digoxin) to treat congestive heart failure.
OTHER USES: This medication may also be used to help protect the kidneys from damage due to diabetes.

This medicine is a light yellow, shield tablet imprinted with "PRINIVIL" and "MSD 106".
Class and Mechanism:
This drug belongs to a group of medications called ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitors. It works by relaxing blood vessels, causing them to widen. High blood pressure reduction helps prevent strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems.
Generic Prinivil (Lisinopril) Storage
Store Generic Prinivil at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture.
How to take Generic Prinivil (Lisinopril)?
Take this medication by mouth, usually once a day or as directed by your doctor. You may take this drug with or without food. Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day.
It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick.
Limit alcoholic beverages.
Drink adequate fluids to prevent from becoming dehydrated.
If OVERDOSE is suspected, contact your local emergency room immediately.
What to do if I miss a dose?
Take the missed dose up to 12 hours late. If more than 12 hours have passed, skip the missed dose and take only the next regularly scheduled dose.
!!! Do Not take a double dose of this medication.
If you are not sure of what to do if you miss a dose, or if you miss more than one dose, contact your health care provider.
Who should not take Generic Prinivil (Lisinopril)?
Check with your physician if you have any of the following conditions:
Narrowing of the Aortic Heart Valve, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, Renal Artery Stenosis, Abnormally Low Blood Pressure, Liver Problems, Kidney Disease, Disorder of the Connective Tissue, Giant Hives, Transplant of an Organ, Pregnancy, Sudden Brain Blood Flow Problem, Low Amount of Sodium in the Blood, High Amount of Potassium in the Blood, Inherited Disorder of Continuing Episodes of Swelling, Reduction in the Body's Resistance to Infection, Decreased Function of Bone Marrow, Decreased Neutrophils a Type of White Blood Cell, Hemodialysis with High-Flux Membrane
Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: history of an allergic reaction which included swelling of the face/lips/tongue/throat (angioedema).
This drug may make you dizzy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.
FOR WOMEN:
When used in pregnancy during the second and third trimesters, ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitors can cause injury (Blunt or penetrating trauma or damage to a part of the body) and even death to the developing fetus. When pregnancy is detected,Generic Prinivil should be discontinued as soon as possible.
It is not known if this drug passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding is not recommended due to the potential harm to the nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
What side effects may occur?
Generic Prinivil may cause side effects. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, dry cough or blurred vision as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Generic Prinivil (Lisinopril) Drug Interactions
A very serious reaction may occur if you are getting injections for bee/wasp sting allergy (desensitization) and are also taking lisinopril. Make sure all your doctors know which medicines you are using.
Do not take potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first. This medicine can raise your potassium levels, which rarely can cause serious side effects such as muscle weakness or very slow heartbeats. Tell your doctor immediately if these effects occur.
