This medicine is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in women after menopause. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor. These medicines are structurally different from hormones, including estrogens and progestins

Class and Mechanism:
Generic Evista (Raloxifine) is in a class of medications called Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators, or SERMs. It helps build bone without negatively affecting the breast or uterus. This means that Generic Evista (Raloxifine) does not cause breast tenderness or vaginal bleeding. Also, Generic Evista (Raloxifine) does not increase the risk of breast or uterine cancer.

Keep out of the reach of children in a container that small children cannot open.
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
How to take Generic Evista (Raloxifine)?
Take Generic Evista (Raloxifine) exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.
Generic Evista (Raloxifine) can be taken with or without food.
Take Generic Evista (Raloxifine) at the same time each day.
Your doctor may want you to take calcium and vitamin D supplements if you do not receive enough of these substances from your regular diet.
Weight-bearing exercise may also be helpful.
When OVERDOSE is suspected
There have not been any reports of overdose with Generic Evista (Raloxifine). However, any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately
What to do if I miss a dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication.
Who should not take Generic Evista (Raloxifine)?
Do not take Generic Evista (Raloxifine) if:
- your doctor has not told you that you have passed menopause. Generic Evista (Raloxifine) is for use only by women after menopause.
- you are pregnant or could become pregnant. Generic Evista (Raloxifine) could harm your unborn child.
- you are nursing a baby. It is not known if Generic Evista (Raloxifine) passes into breast milk or what effect it might have on the baby.
- you have or have had blood clots that required a doctor’s treatment. This may include clots in the legs, lungs or eyes. Taking Generic Evista (Raloxifine) may increase the risk of getting these blood clots. While infrequent, these clots can cause serious medical problems, disability or death. If anyone in your family has a history of blood clots, or if you are now being treated for congestive heart failure or cancer, talk with your doctor about whether it is all right to take Generic Evista (Raloxifine).
- you have severe liver disease, unless your doctor says it is all right to take Generic Evista (Raloxifine).
- you are allergic to Generic Evista (Raloxifine) or any of its ingredients.
What side effects may occur?
If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking Generic Evista (Raloxifine) and seek emergency medical attention or notify your doctor:
- an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
- sharp pain in the legs;
- swelling of the legs;
- sudden chest pain;
- coughing up blood;
- changes in vision; or
- unexplained vaginal bleeding.
Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Generic Evista (Raloxifine) and talk to your doctor if you experience
- leg cramps,
- muscle soreness,
- weight gain,
- sweating,
- hot flashes, or
- a rash.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
Generic Drug Interactions
- ampicillin thyroid hormones like levothyroxine
- herbal or dietary supplements like black cohosh or soy
Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking including non-prescription medicines. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These can affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.
Additional Information
Being immobile for long periods of time while taking this medicine may increase your risk of blood clots. During long periods of travel, get up and move around as often as possible. Do not share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children. If using this medicine for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
